Change Default Document Font & Size
When you click on the “SET DOCUMENT(S) DEFAULT FONT & SIZE” button in the Font Center, a new screen will open which will allow you to make default font and font size changes.
This screen will allow you to change the default font and font size for the entire document.
In this case it is NOT a find and replace operation. Regardless of what the default font (global font) in the document is, the font will be replaced with whatever you set here.
This works with Power Point, Word and Excel (but see two exceptions below).
In the office document, headings are referred to as “major”, while body is referred to as “minor”.
Default fonts
Select the desired font on the left side of the screen:
- “Select Font for Body (minor)” – the font for the body of the document.
- “Select Font for Heading (major)” – the font for the headings.
Once you select a font, you will see what it will look like on the right side of the screen. You can select only one of the two and leave the other as it is.
Default font size
Type the desired font size into the “Enter Font Size” box, and press “Apply” – you will see the results on the right side of the screen. The size is in points and goes in .5 point increments, for example 8.5, 11, 24.
“Reset” empties the font size box.
Font Mappings
The table at the bottom of the screen changes specific fonts and sizes wherever they appear (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio). The default font selections above cover theme-based text; mappings cover explicitly formatted text.
Each row is one change: text in the “From Font” and / or “From Size (pt)” becomes the “To Font” and / or “To Size (pt)”.
- Leave “From Font” empty to match any font.
- Leave “To Font” or “To Size (pt)” empty to keep that part unchanged.
- A row needs at least one “From” value and at least one “To” value, otherwise it is ignored.
- Sizes are in points, for example
11or10.5. - Type into the empty row at the bottom of the table to add a mapping.
- Select a row and press the Delete key to remove it.
For example, From Font Arial, From Size 10, To Font Calibri, To Size 11 changes every 10 point Arial text to 11 point Calibri.
Saving
“CLEAR SELECTIONS” removes the selected fonts, the font size and all the font mapping rows.
After you are done, press the “SAVE & CLOSE” button.
Go back to the main screen, and run your substitution! The line next to the “Fonts & Sizes” button on the main screen shows the body font, heading font, font size and the number of font mappings that are set.
Notes
In EXCEL, there are no major headings, so no font changes are possible for the heading style. However you can still change the body of the excel document font by changing the “minor” font style.
In Power Point, there is no such thing as a global font size, so this feature is not available in this case. However you can still change the fonts for the body of the power point itself.
